We have a studio in Newport Beach, CA where I have owned and operated Angel Threads Sewing School for children and adults. I teach clothing design and construction. We have now added Newport Art Silk Painting Studio to both enhance the sewing experience and to create a new one.
It started decades ago with loving instruction from my grandmother on her 1954 Singer sewing machine. It continued with the designing and sewing of my high school and college clothing. Following that came marriage, a trip down the corporate career path and a beautiful daughter. After finally realizing how unsatisfying that career path was, I opened my own sewing studio and began teaching machine sewing and clothing design to children. I later expanded to teaching adults the long lost art of sewing and design.
We have designed the process to be easily recreated by anyone, with or without an artistic flair. Your creations will spring to life with your own hands and may be in the form of a square or oblong scarf, men's handkerchief, a beach cover up, shawl, kimono or pajama bottoms to name a few. They will be one-of-a kind with your personalized touch. Please call Newport Art Silk Painting Studio to make an appointment to join the fun.

"Any and all experiences with Newport Art Silk Painting Studio are just terrific. You can design and create your own beautiful silk scarves! A friend of mine is planning to have them come to her house with their supplies so all her friends can come over and create their own custom made silk scarves".
Hi Rick and Lisa
We had a great time at your Second Sundays event last weekend. Although I was very nervous about painting my own scarf, I found with your guidance, it was easy and fun. I'm ready to do more and want to try some different techniques! Thanks for a new experience. I look forward to wearing my art to work when the weather cools! Take care.

Q: Do I need to be artistic?
A: The most difficult part of the process is selecting your favorite colors. If you can do that, you can easily create one-of-a-kind wearable art.
Q: Are the silk creations washable?
A: After the silk items are hot ironed to set the color, they can be hand washed in cool water with Woolite Gentle Cycle or Dr. Bronner's Pure-Castile Soap or machine washed on delicate cycle with Woolite Gentle Cycle.
Q: Why do the silk items cost more at Newport Art than at Target for example?
A: Well for one, our items are 100% China silk, cool and breathable and not 100% printed polyester, hot and itchy. They are fair traded and sustainable products not produced in sweat shops by children or sewn by garment workers in Los Angeles for $6/hr. They are designed and painted by you in the U.S. as a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Q: What health benefits can I expect from mastering the ancient art of silk water marbling?
A: "The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past, worry about the future, or anticipate troubles but to live in the present moment wisely and earnestly by immersing yourself into the Art of Silk Water Marbling at Newport Art". Buddha
